The Lord Mayor: "This is not another North Bank. We've done a fair bit of consultation with the community."
Fact: As a lesson in public consultation, this is a disaster. The public was consistently misled about the massive size of the hotel. The Council's own study shows the public are overwhelmingly against large scale commercial development.
The Lord Mayor: "80-percent of the land will be retained as public space."
Fact: At the Western end of the park 90-percent of the available land is earmarked for the hotel and convention centre. Pedestrians and cyclists will share a narrow access with taxis and trucks servicing the hotel. It is a planning disaster, extending busy Boundary street into the park and putting pedestrian lives at risk.

Fact: At RL-32 metres, the hotel is at least three storeys above the level of the cliffs.

- We are Brisbane residents concerned about the imminent destruction of part of our city's iconic identity. The park, cliffs & riverfront around the Howard Smith Wharves will be lost to a large private hotel. This is a planning catastrophe for the heart and soul of Brisbane.
Please can we just have a park on the northern side to match the Kangaroo Point side of the river. Why can't we just keep the lovely bike and walk ways that have taken such a long time to have established? There is already so much high rise along both sides of the river.
